History > Global Heart Valve Disease Day Webinar
Dear Colleagues,

Pulmonary failure (and consecutive cardiac failure) is the worse scenario of COVID-19 if early treatment with non-invasive ventilation (NIV) such as high-flow nasal cannula BiPAP) to prevent "Patient-Self-Inflicted Lung Injury" fails.

A few percentage of patients with or without co-morbidities will develop acute pulmonary failure irrespective of age and proceed to the stage of invasive ventilation (IV) at the ICU with variable outcomes. Others under invasive ventilation (IV) treatment might fail to recover and receive artificial lung therapy (ECMO: Extracorporal Membrane Oxygenation).
