Post WHS Echo Course at the German Heart Institute Berlin

Dear Colleagues,
On behalf of the Organizing Committee of the Pan-African/WHS Global Forum, it is our great pleasure to invite cardiologists particularly echocardiographers who are practising in the emerging economies to participate in our capacity building program in perioperative hands-on echocardiography. It is designed to update and maintain their knowledge of advances and changes in cardio-thoracic medicine.
The hands-on echocardiography course will take place after the World Health Summit (WHS) and the Pan-African/WHS Global Forum in October 22nd, 2013 at the German Heart Institute Berlin, Augustenburger Platz 1, D-13353 Berlin.
Distinguished echo specialists will mentor the course participants and cardiothoracic surgeons from South Africa, Europe and USA will give lectures in their specialized fields.
The 2-day course comprises of introductory lectures on cardiac anatomy and pathology, overview of cardiovascular diseases and the latest research developments in perioperative cardiac imaging for: Coronary Artery, Heart Failure, Valvular Heart, Aortic and Congenital Heart Diseases and Cardiomyopathy as well as Measurement of Outcome and Quality of Cardiovascular Surgery.
Hands-on echocardiography training.
The mentors will take the participants from the basics of normal heart echocardiography (Find the windows, the long axis view, the short axis view, m-mode examination) through to color Doppler examination. Under the guidance of the mentors the attendees will review cases with heart diseases.
The course is limited to 18-20 participants
Deadline for registration: September 10, 2013.
Upon completion of the hands-on echo course;
the attendees should be able to:
- learn modern imaging diagnostic techniques in heart failure for decision-making for in conservative and surgical therapies,
- develop a perioperative management strategy based on echocardiographic evaluation in patients with valvular and congenital heart diseases, hypertensive and non-hypertensive cardiomyopathy
- apply new treatment strategies for referring patients with rheumatic (inflammatory) valvular heart diseases for early surgery, particularly, the timing for valve repair surgery in children.
We hope that you will participate in this jecho workshop to interact with the renowned faculty who will share with you their most recent scientific work in the rapidly evolving field of imaging of cardiovascular diseases.
